Life is Good

First and most importantly, Happy Birthday to my nephew Jake who would be 3 today if he were still here with us.  My brother's family does a project every year on his birthday to remember him by.  This year they are making cough pillows for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.  I did manage to get material for my cough pillows today.  I might have to wait for my husband to get home to be able to operate the sewing machine.  He is totally the seamstress of the family.  Jake, you are loved and you were remembered all throughout my day.

Cough pillow materials.  They will be totally cute...if I get help that is...lots and lots of help.

Second, I fed my children McDonalds Happy Meals tonight.  Now, if my kids order at the window I could totally see that they should call what they want a Happy Meal because the meal really makes them happy.  But I think I'm going to start asking for three Guilt Meals when I go through the Mckee Dees drive-thru.  I'm still fighting the remorse four hours later.

Third, winter lifeguards are the raddest.  The world needs a bajillion summer lifeguards and about five winter lifeguards.  So the winter lifeguards are the ones who made the super-cut.  While Captain Kindergarten has been taking swim lessons this week, Sidekick Sister and the Little Linebacker have been splashing it up in the baby pool.  The lifeguard on duty on Tuesday and Thursday got in the pool with them, splashed them in the face, drug them around on noodles, threw a squishy turtle with(at) them, chased them, threw them around and generally acted like a big brother for the entire forty-five minutes.  I felt like asking him if he was the last of eight children, because he was behaving just like spouse-the-spoiled-but-cute-baby-of-the-family who plays(tortures) our children in a way that he would have played with(tortured) younger siblings if he'd only had them.  Thank you nice life guard.  You made my childrens' night.  You are forever glorified in this mother's heart.

Fourth, I let Captain Kindergarten go into Petsmart tonight for ten minutes.  How many times, you may ask, how many times did Captain Kindergarten ask for a pet on the way home?  More than the sands of the sea, more than the stars of the sky, more than the patience his mother possesses.  I told him if he asked me one more time that there were going to be consequences.  And he said, "OK, Mom, I'll stop." And then he asked me again.  And I said, "Captain Kindergarten."  And he said, "Oh yeah," and then he asked me again.  It was just like when I make chocolate chip cookies and I tell myself I'm eating my last one while I pick up another cookie and eye a third.  The spirit is willing...

Fifth, life is good.  It may not be easy, but it is real good.

JessicaP,

Your post about the poodle made me laugh, to the point where Hank was asking why I was laughing. I then read it to him, or at least attempted to do so between giggle, guffaws and trying to catch my breath. Thank you for sharing, I was in need of some levity in my life.

BTW, the lifeguard sounds awesome!

Oh that makes me happy that it made you happy. It really does. Thanks for letting me know!

Did you read on the Pioneer Woman where she broke the donut case at the gas station right after she had planned out what she was going to do to lose weight with her husband in the car? I laughed so hard I cried and of course it was right on a day where I needed it.
