Remember about the King David documentary I mentioned the other day? Hee-ya? Ka-pow? And all that jazz? Well there was one more idea pointed out in it that struck me between the eyeballs and kind of stayed. The documentarians (people kind of like Veterinarians I guess except instead of working on an animal they work on a document..ary) couldn't escape a mention of Moses. This is what they had to say about him: Here was a man who went from being the Pharoh's son, to being a humble herder. It was probably a rough transition, but he got his life together, got himself a wife and was probably content. Then one day he saw a bush burning and the Lord talked to him out of it and told him things that he probably didn't want to hear. Moses didn't run away from the bush. He went ahead and did what he was told to do. He got the Jews out of Egypt and led them for 40 years across and around and up and down the desert, waiting the whole time for everyone to get righteous enough to go into the Promised Land. Then, tragedy of all tragedys, heartbreak of heartbreaks, just as Israel was allowed to go into the Promised Land, Moses himself was denied it by God. Now this could be totally crushing, this squelching of a man's opportunity to see the success of his life's work, except the biblical account points out that even though Moses didn't get to see the land he sacrificed his life to, Moses did see the face of God.
There is much that I want in this world. Much, much, much and a little bit more. But gosh, if there isn't some deep knowing in me at the end, man, that would be a shame.
