Today was the pre-op appointment. We've been checking for the last couple of weeks to see if our insurance had authorized the surgery and the folks that we'd talk to on the hospital side and the insurance side pretty much told us the check was in the mail. And then we called the insurance company one more time this morning and they said the check wasn't signed quite right. And then we went to the hospital and they said that the insurance company said that the check wasn't signed quite right. And I thought in my mind, "Ahhhhhhhhhh!" And the lady who broke the news to us said, "We like to think positively about these things, so we'll just go ahead and act like the surgery is going to happen tomorrow even if it doesn't happen to work out." And I said in my brain, "Ahhhhhhhhh!"
After that we played a few rounds of Jenga in the toy room, then read every book in the examination room, and wore out every game on our iphones. Two hours after we arrived for our appointment a P.A. came in and said, "Good news, the doctor is on the phone with the insurance company right now and everything is going to work out." And my thinker thought, "Holy Cow insurance company. Two hours? You're the devil. But you're affordable and you're letting us do this so I'll let it slip by this time. But...geez...Beelzebub."
The doctor painted pictures of roses blooming red in the summer after all the spring hoeing is done. He showed us x-rays from a girl similar to Sidekick Sister's case who is just about all done with the process and her legs are even-Steven. Here's to hoping I suppose. We also got friendly with a Mom in the elevator who was pushing her thirteenish looking daughter in a wheelchair. The Mom couldn't gush enough about how good the doctors were and how the whole external fixator, pin-infection, daily PT thing really wasn't as intimidating as it looked. She made me feel totally jazzed. I say three cheers for all those good people who make me feel better about things the day before things are going to get a tad bit different than they were before.
Wish us a happy surgery tomorrow. I'll let you know how we come out on the other side.
