The title (yes it has a title!) is Favorite Things. So lets talk about these favorite things.
This is the baby's contribution. I don't know that messy feet are her favorite thing, but she really didn't feel up to doing a portrait of me...well, it was either me or the toilet scrubber in the bathroom. She really loves that thing.
The Little Linebacker heard that dinosaurs were Captain Kindergarten's favorite thing. And since big brother's are the awesomest thing God ever created... Spouse-the-genius-behind-this-genius helped out with the dinosaur at first, but then saw fit to let the muses work on Little Linebacker as they would. It looks a bit like carnage to me...or my kitchen table after dinner. Maybe that's the same thing.
Sidekick Sister wanted rainbows and a sheep and then she expanded from there. She just told me that on the bottom are four animals. The brown one is Grumpy the horse, the pink one is Silly the horse, the Little Blue creature is Pilchard the cat and the big blue guy next to him is Cement, also a horse. She narrated as she painted and it was enough to break a jaded man's heart to hear her lisp along.
Here is Captain Kindergarten's dinosaur scene. We have a Ceratosaurus on the left with a baby Triceratops next to it. Then comes a tree shading a fish in the water. All of them are standing on a hot bed of lava. Dear me. I like to think of this painting as The Jurassic Period in Blue or The Painting My Dad Made Me Do. Either way it makes me smile.
Here is my favorite picture of the bunch. Should I not have favorites? But I do. Maybe for just this year. Spouse-that-makes-my-life-so-darned-good has lots of favorites. I'm going to get this all wrong, but I'll try to tell you what's behind it all. The tree for him is family. The tent is scouts - he's always in charge of the scouts where'er we go. The orangish box is his gym, even down to the colorful climbing holds. If you didn't think spouse-that's-totally-cool was cool before, he has made a climbing wall in two of the places we've lived in the last seven years. I think that is totally cool. He's got the temple behind the tree because he's into the church stuff. And then there's the mountains, ever and always the mountains - someday we will return. And then helicopters. He likes those too.
And here is my flip-flop. I heart the flip-flop like you wouldn't believe. Such a versatile piece of footwear. It can be dressed up and dressed down. It can be worn in the summer and winter (totally!). It can flip and it can flop. It is wonderful. On my flip-flop are all my children - C.K. with the snake that he is always begging for me to let him have as a pet, L.L. with his sun because he's always saying, "It's a good day!", S.S. with her cute little necklace, and Baby Girl with her bottle that keeps her belly in such a good, plump, round fullness. The two blue splotches are my running shoes. My garden is to the left of my white blob of a temple. And then of course spouse-that-is-taller-than-me-by-a-good-bit there at the bottom with a heart next to him because I'm a dork like that.
And there you have it for 2012. Here's to 2013!

I love each square and each person represented by it! This is such a great idea.
