Joy

Today at church my little girl, my Sidekick Sister, sang Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes from her wheelchair.  Since her cast is circled tight around her waist, she lives life bent in a significantly obtuse angle.  This makes her knees and also her toes completely out of her eye sight, let alone her reach.  But she smilingly dangled her fingers knee-ward and toe-ward when she sang, "knees and toes, knees and toes."  And she did it all with a bubbling laugh and smile.  If I had never loved this blue-eyed, feisty, opinionated, silly, affectionate, lisping, quick, clothes-obsessed, sunshine-and-wind-phobic, giggly girl, I think seeing that would have won me over.

There can be joy in imperfection folks.  And I find that downright encouraging.
