Hey, I Kinda Like This

My husband and my oldest went camping with the scouts last night.  As I was baking bread, making granola, feeding the kids that were still home and and doing laundry all at once, I had a moment of Dad-envy.  Oh wouldn't it be great to be a Dad and take just one kid around to slather attention on.  Wouldn't it be great to be a Dad and go off and camp with the boys on any random night you choose.  Wouldn't it be great to be a Dad and not have to worry about staying ahead of the laundry, grocery shopping, baths and cleaning.

But it was kinda cool, because in the middle of my Dad-envy, I realized that being a Mom really, really works for me.  Even as I had my jealous thoughts, I knew they weren't genuine.  I wouldn't trade being the Mom of four little kids for any scout camping trip in the world.  That's what the heart of me told me.  It's nice to get those little confirming revelations every now and again.  Especially on the day after I got poop splashed on my leg when I unsuspectingly took the shorts off my blown-out two-year old's bottom too quickly.

So like I said I baked bread and granola yesterday.  My husband and I eat granola on yogurt every morning for breakfast.  The kids prefer baked oatmeal.  I love making one batch of baked oatmeal a week and leaving it in my fridge as opposed to making fresh oatmeal every morning.  Just like I couldn't go back from homemade bread now that I've started making it, I can't keep myself from taking the time to make the granola and baked oatmeal too.  There are some things that are just better from your own oven.

Oh - and I guest posted on a Sister-missionary's blog the other day.  She asked me to write about what we do to be an active family.  I actually took the time to put pictures on for her so you can see the backs of my kids if you want.
