Let There Be Light

Once upon a time there was a girl who was really tired.  All she wished for in life was sleep.  But it seemed the more she wished for it, the less she got of it.

Every night it was, "Mom!" and then "Mom!" and then "Mom, I can't get to sleep because I'm scared," "Mom I can't get to sleep because my leg hurts," "Mom I can't sleep because I've got diarrhea and there is poo in my pants," "Ma-Ma-Ma-Ma-Ma" (translation: my teeth hurt and I'm lonely), "Mom!" and then "Mom!" and then "Mom!"

As the night wore on and as she saw through bleary eyes the clock go from 1am to 2am to 3am to 3:20am, she couldn't help but wonder how she could ever overcome the relentlessness of her star-lit hours.

And then like a fairy-Godmother the sun came up.  It waved its wand and the girl's heart felt happy and it felt strong and it felt grateful for a spring full of blue skies and the end of daylight savings.  The girl was able to shake off the night and pour bowls of cereal and demand that little ones get out of pjs and into play clothes without being too snappish.

And the girl declared, "Let there always be light that my children may live long in the land."

The End

Ha! Love this. I hope you didn't have too many of the "Mom I can't sleep because I've got diarrhea and there is poo in my pants" wake-ups. Thank goodness for sunny spring days!
