The Awesome and the Not-So

Awesome: The 10 1/2 hour drive from my house to Baltimore is done!!

Not-so-awesome: I have to drive back.

Awesome: As we have traveled the Sidekick has been a mellow, malleable creature with our iPad and a Barbie movie in her hands.

Not-so-awesome: I cannot get the iPad into my hands and I cannot shake a nagging feeling that Barbie and I do not line-up 100% when it comes to the things we believe my girl should value in life. Yeah, yeah we're together on the whole be nice, be a strong woman thing - but must it always be about clothes? And must they always be sleeveless? It gives a Mormon Mom the heart palpitations.

Awesome: The Sidekick might get her cast off today.

Not-so-awesome: I had to wake up at 5:15am eastern time (4:15am my time) to get her to the hospital on time. I feel like the bottom of my eyelids are sitting in my shoes.

Awesome: The Sidekick won't be awake for any of the pokes she might need to get today.

Not-so-awesome: In order to get to sleep she had to take Versed which on our last hospital visit she learned to hate, detest and all around dread. There was much kicking, crying, and spitting and absolutely no sugar before that medicine went down.

Awesome: The nurse in the OR (and the Versed) had SKS smiling, laughing, giving high fives, and making invites to our house.

Not-so-awesome: As soon as the gas mask went on little girl wiggled and struggled and called out for her Momma. I saw her eyeballs roll back in her head just before her body gave into the death-like sleep. I don't think I will ever get used to my baby being put to sleep. It crushes my heart to pieces every time.

Awesome: I am all by myself in the waiting room right now. Not a single soul needs me. My mind and my time are my own.

Not-so-awesome: I am all by myself in the waiting room right now. Not a single soul needs me. I kind of dig being needed. I guess I can get over it for a couple of hours.

I'll check in when I know how things have turned out for the Sidekick. Thanks for all prayers and positive thoughts going her way today!

Sending lots of prayers heavenward for you both! Just the 10.5 hour drive alone makes me envy your courage. SKS is lucky and blessed to have you as her Momma!
